ABOUT
S(M+M)ITH is a sibling-led creative production duo founded by brother and sister Matthew and Michelle J. Smith. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, their creative journey began at a young age through dance, where 20+ years of training and performing in the competitive dance convention and competition circuit cultivated a deep passion for storytelling through movement. Their artistic style blends contemporary jazz and hip-hop with fashion, cinematography, and film, creating visually compelling experiences that connect with audiences on an emotional level. While their work embraces cinematic and digital mediums, their love for live performance remains at the heart of their creative identity. Through innovative movement, striking visuals, and collaborative artistry, S(M+M)ITH transforms imagination into unforgettable entertainment experiences.
MATTHEW
Matthew’s love for dance performance, choreography, and teaching began at the age of three, where his passion for artistic movement first began. He graduated from Houston’s High School of the Performing and Visual Arts, where he was exposed to a variety of dance disciplines. Matthew then began to assist top industry choreographers such as Mia Michaels, Braham Logan Crane, Lisette Bustamante, and Stephen “Twitch” Boss.
He has appeared in music video projects with artists such as Macklemore, Sia, Beyoncé, and Jesse & Joy. Matthew has worked with Andrew Winghart on concept visuals including Pneuma and Blue Wave. His movie credits include Stargirl on Disney+, choreographed by Mandy Moore. Additionally, he has traveled the world dancing with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. He has also worked as a choreographer’s assistant alongside Mel Charlot on So You Think You Can Dance.
Matthew’s teaching philosophy is based on creating a welcoming and diverse environment that encourages students to be their most authentic self. He emboldens you to identify your artistic voice while also ensuring that you understand dance movements are a visual representation of the music you hear and feel. Matthew is also a faculty member at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy and TMILLY TV in Los Angeles and a Guest Faculty member at BDC in NYC. He also teaches for a well established dance convention called Artist Simply Human where he tours the U.S teaching Fusion movement and Hip Hop.
MICHELLE
Michelle J. Smith is a fashion stylist, choreographer, and creative with a lifelong passion for fashion and dance. A graduate of the University of North Texas, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising. Since beginning her dance training at age five, she has studied with renowned programs including Tremaine, JUMP, The Pulse, Monsters of Hip Hop, Debbie Allen Dance Intensives, and Humphrey's School of Musical Theatre.
Michelle expanded her fashion experience through styling internships in Los Angeles, on Allure Magazine's Saweetie cover shoot and King Kong Magazine's Machine Gun Kelly cover shoot, and furthered her studies in Fashion Styling and Fashion E-commerce Merchandising in Paris, France.
She currently works as a freelance stylist, Fashion Stylist for Stately Men, and Assistant Stylist for the company's creative marketing production team while continuing to teach and choreograph. A former Director of the ChoreoBlock Hip Hop Dance Team, Michelle's choreography has earned recognition at Tremaine Dance Convention, the Junior Theater Festival, and the American College Dance Association. She has also performed in productions including Guys and Dolls, Legally Blonde, Hairspray, Bring It On: The Musical, and Xanadu. Michelle is passionate about using fashion and movement to inspire creativity and tell meaningful stories.
